Well hello there o3o
As I'm sure most of the community is aware with the current circumstances and whatnot the server will become Vanilla without the inclusion of a shop maintained and created by the staff which to myself sounds like the perfect opportunity for us to take matters into our own hands and, as I'm sure is intended with the new server, create our own shops and work like a true community, everybody doing their part to offer services to one another. Keep in mind, this thread is purely for people to propose their thoughts and here are mine, so they may not reflect everyone's idyllic situation for the future (feel free to add / disagree / comment your thoughts) FYI: Its a rather lengthy rant :3
Now, in my eyes there are two ways we could go about this:
Option 1 (The Most Likely To Happen):
We let whatever happens happen, shops being dotted around the map without structure and order; consequently meaning absurd prices and the community not being able to have a central location to trade, get goods, meet up etc. Now this method may be the most likely to happen but it would certainly not be the most beneficial to all, leading to disarray and the server becoming more of an individual experience similar to single-player rather than a group of people, such as ourselves, trying to get the true potential out of SMP.
Option 2 (The Ideal Outcome):
In a perfect World, I would love to see a bustling spawn area filled to the brim with peoples town homes, thriving market-places for trading, and an assortment of shops for different trades built by members of the community so that we would be able to support one another and work as a unit or perhaps an economy more realistically. This would mean not only we would have shops in place but also have other facilities at the disposal of the entire community such as enchanting stations, xp farms (perhaps), farms for both livestock and agriculture alike and my personal favourite being a message board / post office where people can post wanted signs requesting services / trade offers etc. Now obviously this would require immense amounts of organisation to get the community to produce something similar to this utopia, however I feel if we all club together we could get something real good going on here.
Here's how I propose we do something of the sort; we divide up potential jobs / trades to begin with so we have the essentials sorted and as time progresses we can branch people out into more luxurious areas to address such as decorations etc. This is not to say one specific person can only do one job and that job only but must primarily assure they have somewhat of a bountiful stock built up in one particular area to provide to others so that we would be able to gain access to whatever we need, be that blocks, weapons, armour, food etc. Obviously, some people may want to go off and do their own thing and thats totally cool, thats how some people like to play but I hope that we could primarily address certain areas of necessities to begin with.
From this first phase we could hope to either expand our settlement or perhaps split into individual kingdoms, keeping the spawn area as a hub of sorts which to be able to continue to get what we need and provide services, the problem with inevitable expansion as time goes on it is more than likely this area would be forgotten of; therefore we should make a point that we continue to use it frequently as well as continuing to fulfil our own personal projects whether that be building in a smaller group or on your own, or adventuring.
Another staple thing to address is group events, which I believe with the server becoming SMP will open up a host of opportunities including divvying up members into smaller teams to, for example hunt for the stronghold, fight Wthers or finding temples. Additionally concerning group events we should also consider what the server should do to celebrate special days / celebrations, for example: Halloween, Christmas or New-Years. There would be nothing stopping us from clubbing together to pave the town with Christmas decorations and erect (ahah funny word) a Christmas Tree and give presents or operate upon a 'secret Santa functionality'.
With the addition of PVP, if it is turned on would also open up the possibility of holding small tournaments of types, perhaps going as far as to create an arena to hold such prestigious events. Im spitballing here guys, gimme a break!
There is also the question of currency for this entire operation to be a success if we so attempt it, for example I believe without the use of iconomy, or whatever plugin is used to give us commands such as /bal etc. we would benefit and make further use of trading, emphasising furthermore the need to trade and interact with one another, this is not to say that the game would be broken with it, however I feel there would be more meaning behind obtaining that stack of wooden planks or melons, per-say.
To Conclude...
Now, these ideas listed and talked about are bases, we literally have no-bounds with a vanilla server; I may have forgotten crucial fundamentals as my ideas flood out as I type and invite you to post your own ideas, I heavily suggest however we decide job roles ahead of time if we do want to pursue our second option, consequently I will frequently check the thread and update if required if anything comes of my little idea.
Thank you for wasting your life reading >_<
